Give Peace a Chance

When my daughter Valerie was young I played “Give Peace a Chance” for her, and I explained, “This is among the most important pieces of music ever written.”

Obviously, it was the anthem of a generation, but it’s more than that; it’s a potent reminder that war is not the only way to resolve disputes among nations.

Our times in the 21st Century are defined by a cold indifference to the suffering of others.  But what happens when we start to recognize that we’re all part of a human community and treat one another accordingly?

I don’t know, but I hope we get the opportunity to find out.  In the absence of such an event, it’s quite certain that our civilization is doomed.

    Craig,

C’mon, that cliched dirge by two self-indulgent past their used by date would be gurus, was never the “anthem of a generation” and it certainly wasn’t ” among the most important pieces of music ever written.”!

Doomed, Doomed, I tells ya! Doomed, were all Doomed !

This has been the cry of countless, frustrated would be prophets over the eons.

Civilization has always been on the brink of extinction for its entire existence. But, it never happens! Mainly because there prophets are just impotent paranoids with a strange misogynistic delusion about their own importance.

    Edmund Burke once observed:

“Because half a dozen grasshoppers under a fern make the field ring with their importunate chink, whilst thousands of great cattle, reposed beneath the shadow of the British oak, chew the cud and are silent, pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field.”

Change the fern to cracker barrel,……..
