Trump v. Weld
Anyone who’s tried his hand at the written word and has reread something he wrote last year, or, Gold help him, 30 years ago, has had a feeling of vague self-contempt. As exacting as we try to be with our language, we’re inevitably sickened at our inability to choose our words with the precision that hindsight and a bit more practice will later afford us. Yet this doesn’t stop us from criticizing others, does it?
Take this statement from Bill Weld, presidential hopeful in the Republican party. Trump is a “recipe for disaster?” No, sorry. That phrase means a sign that something horrible is likely to happen. That something horrible isn’t likely to happen; it already has.
Of course, Weld wouldn’t be in the news in the first place if Trump weren’t a cascading tragedy to this nation.
Craig,
“Trump weren’t a cascading tragedy to this nation”.
Nope, he may be a tragedy for leftists, Democrat “never Trumpers”,”Blame America First” Quislings, leftist globalization advocates, unelected Washington officials and the Beltway swamp who believe “elections are too important to be left to the people to decide”
But for the rest of the USA, who are enjoying the booming economy, high employment, increase in real wages, return of US manufacturing, stronger and more effective border and migration control, vastly improved trade treaties, less bureaucracy, less military adventures, more effective foriegn policy etc, etc, ……it’s going just great!
