Antarctica Hits Record High 65 Degrees

As we know, average temperatures around the globe are rising, but some spots are warming much faster than others.

From the Washington Post: Just days after the earth saw its warmest January on record, Antarctica has broken its warmest temperature ever recorded. A reading of 65 degrees was taken Thursday at Esperanza Base along Antarctica’s Trinity Peninsula, making it the ordinarily frigid continent’s highest measured temperature in history.  The Argentine research base is on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. Randy Cerveny, who tracks extremes for the World Meteorological Organization, called Thursday’s reading a “likely record,” although the mark will still have to be officially reviewed and certified.  The balmy reading beats out the previous record of 63.5 degrees, which occurred March 24, 2015.

The key issue here is sea-level rise. Antarctica holds about 90 percent of the world’s ice, which, were it to melt completely would result in a rise of global sea levels to the tune of about 200 feet.  Of course, since the average temperature in Antarctica is -37°C, there is no danger of that, but melting ice has already created severe flooding issues.

Addressing this issue will require immediate action and international cooperation, which does not seem exactly imminent, does it?

    Craig,

The main cause of global warming appear to be all the hot air emitted by overly excited advocates like yourself!

I was slightly surprised when Greta Thunberg whining we have only eight years left to save the planet, it’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, solemnly claiming less than 11.

Some doomsayers are even much less optimistic! In 2012,Cambridge Professor Peter Wadhams, told the Guardian the scientific consensus was the Arctic ice would disappear by 2015 or 2020 at the latest! (it’s still there).

Former UK PM, Gordon Brown announced in 2009 that we had just 50 days to save the Earth ! (nothing saved him).

I remember back in 2004 the Observer produced a panel of leading Climate Scientists who predicted Britain would have a ‘Siberian’ climate 2020.

Toby Young uin the Spectator, pointed out, no one ever apologizes for getting it so wrong! :

his example of Dr Paul Ehrlich, author of the 1968 bestseller ‘The Population Bomb’ proclaimed loudly back in 1974.

‘We must realize that unless we are extremely lucky, everybody will disappear in a cloud of blue steam in 20 years,’

Yet, the New York Times still refers to him a a per-eminient Climate scientist! This is the guy who also confidently predicted America would be subject to water rationing by 1974, and food rationing by 1980.

You would imagine he’d be in hiding or at least exceedinly abashed these days.

Nope! Ol’ Paul’s the the Bing Professor of Population Studies at Stanford and President of Stanford’s Center for Climate Change Science.

As Toby Young points out, it’s lucky Paul Ehrlich didn’t pursue a career as a bookmaker!

There’s no credible evidence to support sea level rise, except a desire for it to happen.

But the hot air of advocates, that does seem to be on the rise!

So by your reasoning you owe me an apology for not dying yesterday, and I’ll admit I’m very disappointed that you didn’t (apologize). You’re like the kid who wants to see how long he can keep a magnifying glass focused on an ant before it bursts into flame. Too bad for the ant when you push the limits! Lucky for all of us that you are quickly becoming the minority. Hopefully we will find just punishment for you if any of us survive…
