Evangelical Christians and Trump

It’s hard to explain Evangelical Christians, other than to say that they are not really Christians at all. Their perspective on life has nothing whatsoever to do with the teachings of Christ, and, in fact, seems to be consistently anti-Christian when it comes to core concepts of the religion: tolerance, kindness, non-violence, charity, racial equality, caring for the poor and sick, and the rest.  As you read through the eight Beatitudes in Matthew (below), think of how totally removed they are from the thinking and behavior of these people.

This doesn’t even take into account the Old Testament: committing adultery, bearing false witness, coveting a neighbor’s wife, stealing, etc.

I would think that real Christians would be fairly cheesed off that such a cult of white supremacists has arrogated Christ’s name.

As presented here, a recent NPRs survey shows that they see Trump as morally upright.  What else could anyone have predicted?

When scholars decades from now look back and examine the elements of the perfect storm that gave us Donald Trump, these ignorant, hypocritical bigots will most certainly be found to have played a major role.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the Earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
