Coronavirus “Brings Out the Worst in Trump”
This strikes me as close, but somewhat inaccurate.
Trump is who he is, i.e., a self-aggrandizing liar, in every situation, this one included. Maybe it’s more correct to say that the coronavirus puts Trump’s true character under a magnifying glass for all to see, while at the same time greatly upping the stakes.
Until now, Trump’s victims were largely invisible: future generations, immigrants, the poor, people of color, a few farmers. Now we have a death watch with mainstream media covering it around the clock. Americans are dying every day as a result of his deceit and ineptitude in full view, and this will only get more intense over the coming month or two.
The real pressure derives from the inescapable fact that Trump dismantled the pandemic protection system that Obama had put in place, as part of his spiteful campaign to erase all progress that his predecessor had made. This is going to make things very difficult for the conman-in-chief as the body count grows.
As a reader points out: “45% still with him though. That’s the horror here; he has created a cult.”
