Trump Was Born Without Compassion, But This Isn’t News
Mike: I think you’re being coy here. You must have noticed that Trump is incapable of many things, of which empathy is one. Telling the truth is another. Never missing an opportunity for self-aggrandizement or punishing a critic is yet one more.
He doesn’t “do” compassion, any more than Jesus did cruelty or Socrates did pseudo-intellectualism.
The funny part is that even his supporters understand this. They actually admire the way he torments entire classes of people: Democrats/liberals, the poor, people of color, the sick, U.S. allies, the mainstream news, environmentalists, and the rest.
He’s pardoned war criminals and other felons, stiffed his contractors, bragged about sexually abusing women, ripped off his “university” students, supported white supremacists, appointed an Education Secretary who is ruining public education, revoked or softened 95 different environmental laws, thumbed his nose at rule of law, kept thousands of children in cages, promised to gut Medicare and Social Security, stood against sensible gun laws, embraced the world’s cruelest butchers, and has acted as a remorseless defendant of dozens of different crimes against humanity all around the world.
He could be re-elected, based almost exclusively on his unique capacity to inflict pain.
