Pandemic Reveals America’s Gross Stupity
Here’s Carolyn Goodman, the mayor of Las Vegas, population 645,000, and temporary home to 42 million visitors annually, explaining to U.S. television journalist Anderson Cooper why she favors reopening the city’s hotels, casinos, restaurants, and other retail establishments to tourists. She seems to be aware that some of these folks will be infected with COVID-19, and carry it back to their hometowns across the country and around the world, but dismisses Cooper as “an alarmist,” on the basis that free market competition will destroy any business that proves to be a pandemic epicenter. What she apparently doesn’t understand is that it takes a few weeks for infected people to become symptomatic, during that time these business locations will continue to infect their patrons.
I actually don’t know how this interview ends because I couldn’t get through it; I became so angry that I wanted to throw my laptop across the room. Maybe you’ll fare better.
