Trump: Armed Protesters in Michigan State Capitol Are ‘Very Good People’

We should begin by noting that it is illegal to carry umbrellas into most state capitol buildings, since they can be used as weapons.  For some reason, this concern does not apply to AR-15s.

But the real issue of the day is the Republican Party, how it has squirted to the extreme right, now endorsing white supremacist militias, and welcoming them into places of law-making.

I’d like to make a prediction (acknowledging in advance that virtually nothing I have forecasted about Trump and the GOP has actually happened): this isn’t going to get the job done for Trump in November.  There has to be some voice of reason and moderation among Republicans that refutes behavior like this.  These people are committing criminal acts (as discussed here), and an entire party is not going to endorse lawlessness and suggest that criminals are “very good people.”  It simply isn’t going to work.

An example is my 93-year-old mother, a life-long Republican.  We haven’t spoken about this, and I won’t bring this up in our next conversation, but you cannot tell me that a Bryn Mawr-educated, fabulously well-read, world traveler has the same political sensibilities as these vile pigs.
