Brilliant Analysis of Renewable Energy Penetration

Here’s a fabulous article that analyzes four semi-distinct phases of renewable energy adoption, each of which is a function of the plummeting costs of solar and wind, each of which comes about for a different reason. I found particularly interesting the kerfluffle that occurs at the end, ca. 2035, when the supply far exceeds the demand at certain times during the day and throws the energy markets into spasm.

What isn’t considered here is the impact of electric transportation, which will eventually come to include the toughies: large trucks, cargo ships and aircraft.
