Atlantic Coast Pipeline Won’t Be Happening
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last month that the 600-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline could be built, and this came as a terrible blow to Native Americans and environmentalists who had worked hard to block it. Yet just yesterday, the two energy giants who stood behind the undertaking, Dominion Energy and Duke Energy, made a statement to the effect that they had abandoned their plans, citing “litigation risk” and concern for the financial viability of the project.
When a potential environmental catastrophe, e.g., the construction and operation of a major oil pipeline like this is averted, everyone responsible for that success should be quite proud of themselves. This victory was the result of the efforts of many thousands of activists, bringing national attention to what was at stake here.
After all, what does “litigation risk” actually mean? It’s Dominion’s and Duke’s understanding of the high probability that these activists and their attorneys will not simply go away quietly and watch the desecration of three states in the eastern part of the country.
Heartiest congratulations to all from 2GreenEnergy.
