Update on Geoengineering
At left are a few thousand climate change mitigation advocates, gathered near the Eiffel Tower during a United Nations conference on the subject in 2015.
How many of them support geoengineering, the concept of manipulating the Earth’s thermometer, perhaps by dumping sulfur and other chemicals into the planet’s atmosphere, to reflect a great percentage of the sun’s radiation back into space? Very few, certainly. To call this idea “controversial” is to put it mildly. What about the unintended consequences of such a massive undertaking? Who should be in charge of all this, and why?
As frightening as the concept is, there may come a day when humankind has no other choice, and this, as a last resort, will make eminent sense. Let’s hope we don’t get there.
Above is linked a report on the subject I thought readers would enjoy.
