U.S. Politics Thrives on Big Money
Removing Big Money from politics is a challenge that seems to be growing year by year. In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court decided in “Citizens United” that unlimited campaign donations from corporations were protected under the First Amendment as free speech. When Antonin Scalia died, it appeared that the high court may overturn that decision, and now, the nomination of Amy Barrett, a devotee of Scalia’s, it appears that this opportunity has, at least for the foreseeable future, passed us by.
Most corruption on the part of billionaires and politicians is difficult to track. In the case of Sheldon Adelson, however, it’s right there in plain view.
