Electra Meccanica Announces New Single-Occupant SOLO EV

As an EV enthusiast, I suppose I’m rooting for these guys, but I’m certainly not investing, as it’s hard to imagine how this single-passenger vehicle could possibly succeed in the market.  My reasoning:

• Sure, there are people who have routine commutes to work, but, insofar as they go other places too, they’re going to need to have two different cars, and that means two depreciation and maintenance schedules, insurance policies, etc.  Who wants that?

• The car is tiny, meaning that it’s uncomfortable and unsafe.

• The MSRP is $18,500. (!)   The (full size) Nissan Leaf is only $31,600.

• Newly established automakers scare the bejeepers out of prospective customers, as there is no track record of customer satisfaction, and no reason to believe the company will be in business long enough to honor its warranty.

Doesn’t sound like a winner to me.
