Society May Be in the Process of Collapse, But You Didn’t Hear It from Me
As we all learn when we are young, some subjects of conversation are taboo, chief among them politics and religion. But what about societal disruption and collapse?
According to 500+ scientists and other scholars, there is a real possibility that, by the end of the 21st Century, humankind will have reached a breaking point, associated with the relentless and ever-increasing exploitation of nature–and of each other. Yet try to remember the last time anyone mentioned this, or published it in the media.
The intro to the video below is as follows:
More than 500 scientists and scholars have signed the *International Scholars Warning on Societal Disruption & Collapse*. It is a stark warning about the possibilities of societal disruption and event collapse. These subjects can no longer be avoided in ‘polite conversation’ with the pretense of not wanting to upset people. What you don’t discuss, you don’t understand, and if it is a possible reality we may all need to face, then it is imperative that we allow ourselves to enter into it in conversation.
When you think about it, how is anything else possible in a civilization that is doing essentially nothing about sustainability? We are acting as though infinite growth is possible on a planet of finite size, yet we know very well how absurd this notion is.
More than 40% of the world’s population lives within 60 miles of an ocean. What happens when hoards of these 3 billion people are displaced from their homes?
Great (and short) video; I hope you’ll check it out.
