Will There Be Consequences To Trump’s Criminal Behavior?

My post “Investigating” Trump concerned Georgia’s “investigation” into Trump’s attempt to coerce the Secretary of State into manufacturing the precise number of voted required for the president’s re-election.  In it I asked, “You have the recording of the call. Outside of listening to it, what is there to investigate?” and then continued, “I would think you either bring charges or you don’t.”

In response, frequent commenter Gary Tulie offers this:

My guess is that whilst that may be enough to warrant charges, that a full investigation will be needed to determine who was involved, if pressure was applied from other angles, etc.

Very likely a crime was committed but the exact ways and persistence with which the crime was committed will have a bearing on the severity of the offence – like for example a home robbery with threats of violence is viewed as more serious than a burglar who enters quietly through an open window, takes a few items and leaves without threatening anyone or breaking anything.

That’s astute, Gary, as always.

In this case, however, it seems almost certain that Trump did this without any provocation from his staff.  The people in his circle normally try to restrain his criminal behavior, rather than to encourage it, and it’s Trump’s nature to commit brazen crimes with little or no concern for the consequences–merely because there have never been any, for the entirety of his life. We’ll see soon if his winning streak stands intact.

I doubt it.
