America First’s Matt Gaetz Is Here To Stay, Kind Of

From Politico:

Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz had a clear message to a friendly crowd Friday night at The Villages: He’s not going away.

“I’m a marked man in Congress. I’m a canceled man in some corners of the Internet. I might be a wanted man by the deep state. But I am a Florida man, and it is good to be home,” Gaetz proclaimed. “Today, we send a strong message to the weak establishment in both parties: America First isn’t going away. We’re going on tour.”

At the hyper-conservative, Trump-favorite retirement home community north of Orlando, the Florida Republican and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) kicked off their “America First Tour,” which the pair of controversial Republican lawmakers plan on using to lay into so-called RINOs, or “Republicans In Name Only.”

Matt Gaetz isn’t going away?  That’s funny.  At this point, it’s fairly clear that he’s “going away” in the same sense that Paul Manafort (pictured above) and all the others connected to Trump “went away,” i.e., to prison.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Gaetz for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in 2019, and it now looks certain that he violated federal sex trafficking laws by paying her to travel with him across state lines.

Federal investigators are looking into Gaetz’s September 2018 trip to the Bahamas, during which it’s believed that Gaetz brought in (trafficked) female escorts from the U.S. to provide pleasure for Gaetz and one of his donors.

Investigators believe former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg, who was indicted in August 2020 on an array of charges related to sex trafficking, met women through a website for sex and introduced them to Gaetz, who also had sex with them.  This might not have been a problem were it not for the fact that Gaetz seems to have illegally exchanged money for sex, and that Greenberg’s attorneys stated in court that Greenberg was likely to strike a plea deal in his 33-count indictment and cooperate with prosecutors. What could Greenberg possibly be offering?

Every couple of days this story heats up another few degrees.  Obviously, Gaetz and all these other alleged criminals are going to claim that they’ve been victims of the deep state, the retribution from political enemies, and God only knows what else.  How well is this going to fare in keeping them out of the slammer?
