Truth and Politics Have Long Since Parted Ways
I wrote yesterday in my post Applying Logic To Politics that someone had just sent me a meme he’s published to the effect Biden is killing the economy, as evidenced by the rising unemployment numbers. But all unemployment numbers fell in February and March, and were unchanged in April.
One of the saddest and most frightening features of today’s insanity is the abandonment of facts and truth. People simply make stuff up and put it on television and/or social media. A great example of this is the humiliating defamation settlement that Fox News wanna be Newsmax was forced to reach with Dominion Voting Systems. From Forbes:
Dominion security director Eric Coomer filed a Colorado defamation lawsuit in December against Newsmax, competitor One America News, the Trump campaign and several Trump-affiliated lawyers, accusing them of falsely linking him to a vast, shadowy, high-tech (and nonexistent) plot to rig the 2020 election.
In a Friday afternoon statement, Newsmax acknowledged it had broadcast voter fraud claims against Coomer and admitted there’s no evidence any of them were true.
Coomer dropped Newsmax from his lawsuit Friday after reaching a settlement with the network, his attorneys told Forbes in a statement, though they did not offer any details on the terms of the settlement.
“Aren’t these people ashamed?” one might ask. Of course not. This is what they do. Dentists drill teeth, pastry chefs bake cakes, and Newsmax makes stuff up, all favorable to Trump, and peddles it as truth. An occasional defamation suit is like employee salaries, utilities, and office space rent: simply a cost of doing business.
