ExxonMobil Reducing Emissions?!

Here’s a piece from ExxonMobil explaining how it intends to reduce emissions. A couple of observations:

Let’s begin by noticing the irony here.  This is a company that spent 25 years and countless millions of dollars hiding what it knew about the effects of its emissions on the Earth’s atmosphere and spreading what it knew to be lies about it, making it impossible for the world scientific community to develop technology that could have nipped global warming in the bud.  Now, it wants us to believe that this culture of deception and treachery has been replaced by one of kinship and a spirit of kum-ba-yah. 

An even larger point is that the emissions from Exxon’s upstream (extraction) and downstream operations (refinement) is an infinitesimal fraction of the CO2 (and actual toxins) that derive from the combustion of the gasoline and diesel.  Humankind eventually will make this cease–but only by putting a spear through ExxonMobil and the rest of Big Oil.  The damage that these pigs are inflicting on the Earth and its people is vast, but it won’t last forever.  If we still have a civilization here in 75 years, i.e., if we can avoid environmental collapse, world fascism, nuclear annihilation, and whatever else might come our way, we will be living in a society which has long since put ExxonMobil in its grave.  That can’t happen soon enough.
