Poor Logic and Deliberate Malice Team Up to Attack Joe Biden
Here’s a post from energy analyst Robert Rapier.At least half a dozen of my friends have shared this meme, so let’s use it as a lesson in critical thinking. This was posted a few days ago by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
What’s the first glaring thing you should see wrong with this meme? The time frame starts in September 2020. Trump was still president, and would be president for nearly five more months. Do you know how much oil prices increased during that time? 43%. Do you know how many of you complained about it? None. So, one might ask whether you simply don’t know this, or whether you do know and you believe the end justifies the means.
In fact, the United States federal budget for fiscal year 2021 runs from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021, so we were still operating under Trump’s budget until three weeks ago.
Do you know why prices have surged? Well, I wrote a Forbes article today explaining why oil prices surged. Covid crushed U.S. oil production, and it hasn’t bounced back yet all the way. Meanwhile, demand has bounced back all the way. That supply/demand imbalance leads to soaring prices, and is the same dynamic behind most of these price increases. I will link to the article in another post, because I don’t want anyone to be confused if/when there is a “fact check” slapped on this meme.
I will add that these price surges are global. They aren’t limited to the U.S. which should be another hint to you that this wasn’t caused by the change in administration.
It appears that Biden’s political opponents, starting with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, see no reason to consider logic and fairness when attacking the president. What a shock.
