Discussion with a Clean Energy Skeptic
A reader who is skeptical of the value of renewable energy writes:
No wind? No electricity. No sun? No electricity.
True. Both solar and wind are variable energy resources, which introduces a problem for grid-operators who are trying to integrate as much of both as possible without making the grid unstable. Current solutions include better and less expensive energy storage, as well as better transmission, to send electricity from where it is now to where it’s needed.
This planet is not doing as much as it could and should to phase out fossil fuels, but it is investing trillions of dollars in clean energy and storage. If you look at what the world’s largest banks along with the largest tech companies are doing, it’s impressive.
