Blair Imani is a: “writer, mental health advocate, and historian living at the intersections of Black, Queer, and Muslim identity.”

The point she makes here is spot-on.  There are no crises that are going to affect the filthy rich.  Foul air and water, fierce heat waves, catastrophic storms, world hunger, and tyrannical governments are disasters that affect others.

Of course, it’s still possible that humankind can achieve a sustainable civilization before it’s too late, but that will require moneyed interests to participate in finding solutions to our physical and political woes.

At left we see a fairly recent (last couple of decades) discovery in astrophysics.

We’ve have known a great deal about the nature of matter for 150 years, but we had exactly zero idea where it all came from.

The graphic below explains a lot about our world, and the brutal Saudi empire in particular.

It gives one a sense for what the geopolitical globe will look like once we have removed oil as our source of energy in the transportation sector.

The sickening truth about the unprecedented flooding shown here is that no one in the moneyed class could possibly give a s*** about it.

To them, whether it’s happening in Australia or anywhere else, the slow but steady destruction of life as we know it on this planet means that the world’s poor are perishing in agony, leaving more room for additional country clubs and polo fields.

Obama is 100% correct here.  As few as 10 years ago, Republicans stood for conservative principles that offered, at least purportedly, real value for those who shared these political philosophies.

But if you happen to flick on Fox News right now, it’s all Democrat-bashing: Biden’s supposed senility, weakness on crime, “open borders policy” (whatever that means), inflationary spending, handouts to lazy poor people, limitless generosity to the Ukrainians (with whom the American people have nothing in common), defunding the police, affiliation with BLM and Antifa, lavish spending on the climate change hoax, school discussion of critical race theory, promoting baby-killing in the form of abortion, and politically motivated persecution of an honest and effective former president.

America is a country peering into a future in which the gap between the haves and have-nots can only be expected to widen as time passes.

The demise of public education represents a significant aspect of this decline.

What a shame.  It could have been avoided if more of us had stood our ground.

We’re often reminded of how nonsensical our world is.

Until recently, the U.S. electorate would not stand for complete gibberish emanating from a president’s mouth.  In 2016,  however, that standard went as far out of mainstream American life as chrome bumpers, black and white television sets, and drive-in burger joints.

I’m amazed to find legitimate, intelligent environmental activists support Elon Musk because of the role he’s playing in forwarding the cause of electric transportation.

Let’s imagine a world where both the energy and the transportation sectors have made great progress in decarbonization, but MAGA Republicans have brought Donald Trump back into position as the most powerful person on the planet.

We’ve gone a long way to mitigating climate change, but we are now living in a world in which the wealthiest country on Earth is no longer a democracy, nor is it a nation of laws.  It’s run by a cruel dictator, whose every whim, regardless of how grossly unfair and illegal, is carried out without question or recourse. Dissidents are hunted down like pheasants.

If you’re not a similarly amoral person sitting on at least five or ten million dollars, you find yourself in a living nightmare.

Some days, good news just rains down upon us.  Not only did we learn today that the DoJ is getting closer to indicting Trump on charges of stealing classified government documents and obstructing justice, but, on another front, the EU took a big step towards removing coal from its grid-mix.

Coal accounts for 12% of the EU’s grid-mix, and the vast majority of this comes from Poland. The replacement: (near) zero-carbon nuclear.

Well, Jo, I would think your position as laid out here is shared by the vast majority of American women.

Having said that, the values and sensibilities of U.S. voters today are difficult to understand by traditional standards.

I took two little kids around trick-or-treating last night and wound up in the garage of a house with a sign on the wall, must have been at least 8′ X 15′, that read “TRUMP – MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN – 2024.”

God only knows what the woman of the house believes about abortion rights.  I certainly wasn’t about to ask.
