Those interested in seeing justice done in response to the numerous crimes of former president Donald Trump will be heartened to hear the words of one of Harvard Law School’s professors of Constitutional Law, Laurence Tribe.
At the very center of present-day Republican politics lies dishonesty. It’s called “The Big Lie” for a reason, but whether we’re talking about attempting to overthrow the entire government, or just committing smaller crimes, like stealing classified documents, there is really very little integrity left in the party at present.

My suggestion for these people is to confess to exactly how bad all this is, and make a statement “re-establishing” their party, just like Wells Fargo did after it was revealed to the world that they were essentially a criminal organization. Their rebranding tag line: “Wells Fargo–established 1852. Re-established 2018.”
Of course, the GOP will take their lumps in the next election or two, but I suggest that’s better than being recognized, for an indefinite period of time, as career liars and criminals with no hope for redemption.
I once heard an anthropologist say that of the hundreds of cultures he had studied, from present-day to ancient times, there are exactly zero that tolerated dishonesty. The demand for personal integrity is a universal characteristic of humankind.
This is something that the RNC might do well to consider.
As an action item, simply publish a list of every Republican at the federal and state level who threw his weight behind Trump after the 2020 election, and say, “We’re sincerely sorry. Please vote to remove every single one of these despicable human beings. We will never let anything like this ever happen again.”
We all respect Liz Cheney for her fierce integrity and true patriotism, but, as mentioned earlier, we would be very foolish to think that just because she upholds rule of law that she’s somehow turned into a steward of the environment.
There are identically zero flavors of modern-day Republicans that aren’t lethally toxic to the notion of environmental responsibility.
This guy has a point. We already know Trump sent an armed mob on federal property (the Capitol), and that he stole classified documents. Why not just arrest him and deal with the fallout, while you’re building a case around more serious crimes?
Sure, there is going to be some violence, but think about the mindset of these 2022-model insurrectionists, having watched almost 900 of their 2021 compatriots charged, tried, and punished for a far more excusable crime, i.e., rioting because the then-President of the United States ordered you to.
It’s hard to imagine what’s to be gained by waiting.

Adam Schiff was interviewed on Terry Gross’s long-running radio program “Fresh Air” yesterday, weighing in on the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.
In the course of the discussion, he made the point that Trump’s Republican supporters in Congress are generally intelligent people who couldn’t possibly believe the Big Lie. Many of them, he says, privately tell him to “keep up the good work” in investigating the coup attempt. (more…)
There is no doubt that Liz Cheney’s star is rising, buoyed by the admiration she’s receiving for her honesty and bravery in the pursuit of justice following the coup attempt. Yet progressives need to remind themselves that her politics are quite right-wing. Not batshit crazy (Big Lie) right-wing, more “Reaganeque,” if you will.
If she’s elected in 2024, and if she’s supported by Congress, we will experience a return to the days of minimal government involvement in free markets. That means things like environmental deregulation, and no hope for the diabetics who are dropping dead because they can’t afford insulin.
It’s a blend of stupidity and rank cruelty that this country really doesn’t need.
