I don’t believe for a minute that this race is anywhere near this close.  Mastriano is an anti-science overt racist who wants to criminalize abortion and prevent government from playing a role in pandemic control.

From a recent rally: “You think Ron DeSantis is good? Amateur.”

This might play well in Alabama or Oklahoma, but not Pennsylvania.

Though no one seems to be admitting that he was “manipulated” (to use Huxley’s term), even the right-wing “news” outlets, e.g., Fox, are backing off Trump.

It’s now completely clear that Trump incited a heavily armed mob to go to the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, and then, seeing that they had illegally broken into and ransacked it, refused to call them off for more than three hours.

Whether or not Trump goes to prison, even his supporters are starting to understand that criminals do not make good presidential candidates.

A reader asked me if I had tried Xfinity (Comcast) mobile.  I wrote:  I did. It was horrendous.
He responded, Really. I am trying to get my bill down and assumed since they use Verizon towers it would be good.

Yes, they do use Verizon towers.  But when my entire family experienced how absolutely terrible the service was, I called in and finally found someone who was willing to tell me the truth.  All Verizon customers get the service they need before any Xfinity customers get any at all, which, of course, explains everything.

It’s just one more example of corporate greed and lying.

Most of us, including me, have come to expect this.  But I’m so disappointed in this particular case. My brother knows (Comcast CEO/Chair) Brian Roberts personally, so it’s two degrees of separation for me, not some random ass*** about whom I know essentially nothing, and expect even less.

Roberts and his investors got incrementally richer, but his 28 million customers had most of their calls dropped, until they had finally had enough and switched back to Verizon.

Until that fateful call, I was telling my wife and kids that they must be hallucinating, and so, when the truth was revealed, I looked like an idiot.  But I’m only one.

The whole thing makes me want to vomit.

There are already fabulous examples of this in the real world, e.g., Nestles’ assertion that water is not a basic human right, but rather a commodity like gold or soybeans that can be offered for sale to people whose rivers and lakes are drying up.

As global temperatures increase and resources become scarcer, look for bold new ideas emerging from the corporate world, so as to exploit the suffering of the poor.

This made me smile.

Looks like someone took this gun nut up on his challenge.

Most people view this is as irresponsible and morally reprehensible, but it’s actually closer to manslaughter than just one more outrageously misogynistic statement from just one more Republican idiot.

There are women who are alive today, will be dead a year from now because they followed the advice of this ass****.

He actually did say this, but to an audience of Christians in Florida who may be more  receptive to this sort of bullshit than the average American.

When he gets on the campaign trail for the 2024 presidency, he may soften his rhetoric so it appears to a somewhat wider group of idiots.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy (shown here) says,  “We don’t want to be known as the Trump Channel.”
Well, that makes sense.  Today, at least 90% of Newsmax programming is pro-Trump lies.  But what about next month, or next year, when Trump is fully discredited, even among the hateful idiots who watch your channel?
At that point, you’re going to need a brand new demagogue that morons can line up behind.  What about the My Pillow guy?  Alex Jones?  Rudy Giuliani?

I have a friend who has prostate cancer, and so I’ve become familiar with how the disease normally progresses, how it’s treated, and how well people tolerate various treatment options.

What I’ve concluded thus far is that all this is individualized, almost to the point that it’s impossible to predict how a certain person is going to react to something like the surgical or chemical removal of their testosterone, the profound depression that often accompanies massive hormonal shifts, as well as life changing events like the end of their sex careers and the (usually slow) metastasis of the cancer throughout their bodies, as they hope to die of something else. (more…)

The points being made here are all valid. But here’s some advice on top of that: don’t shop in stores that have them.

Most Americans have had the pleasant experience of shopping at Trader Joe’s.  It’s uplifting and fun, precisely because your fellow customers, and most definitely the staff, are happy, intelligent, kind people who are genuinely interested in helping you in any way possible.  They are not automata.  They smile.  They communicate.

Try to find anything resembling that in a CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, or Albertsons.

In addition to this reasoning, we have the issue of good citizenship.  Obviously, the Walton family would be thrilled if they could run their business without a single employee.  Their interest in the welfare of the common American is exactly zero.  Using self-checkout only makes it easier for greedy bastards to cut employees’ hours, lay them off, and crush those who remain into the pavement.
