Obviously, Steve Bannon will be of no more help to our nation’s effort to get at the truth re: January 6th than is absolutely required.

But he still needs to a) answer direct questions truthfully, or b) plead the Fifth, or c) commit perjury.

His motives are self-evident, but they don’t really matter.

Let’s note that the judge in Bannon’s contempt of Congress case is insisting that the trial go forward, regardless of whatever tack Bannon takes on his testimony in front of the investigating committee.

Well played, IMO.

I agree with the basic concept here.  What Liz Cheney is doing is quite brave; she is, indeed, very likely to lose her Senate seat.

But let’s get real.  She’s from Wyoming, the reddest state in the union, where Trump won with 69.94% of the votes in 2020, more than 2:1 over Biden.  His supporters aren’t sitting too well with the activities of the January 6th Committee that Cheney is co-chairing, which appears to be in the process of sending their man to prison, perhaps for the rest of his pathetic, crime-driven life. An old friend writes:

This sign is at a fuel station in Greece. Those prices are Euros per liter; you do the math. Then stop complaining about fuel prices in the U.S. and, absolutely positively, stop blaming high fuel prices on Biden.

It’s $9.54/gallon or more.

Good point here.

I was at the gym the other day and I noticed that Fox News (which I wish weren’t on display there) was running a story called “Inflation Nation,” which is completely typical of their MO: create grossly unfair programming, and present it to people too angry and ignorant to be able to figure that out.

FWIW, I believe that evil people exert stress on their bodies that is often visible to the unaided eye.

It doesn’t always manifest itself in the same way, but I believe it is there nonetheless.

We’re told to expect a landslide victory for the Republicans in the 2022 midterms here in the U.S.  Seriously?

Yes, I know there are Americans who are a) angry about inflation, and b) too ignorant to understand that most countries around the world are experiencing rising prices and higher costs of living.

But here’s what I don’t get:

Half of all voters are women, and the popularity of the GOP’s abortion ban among them is in single digits.

Most Americans that believe Trump, as aided by hundreds of his fellow Republicans, tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

About 90% of voters are in favor of some form of gun control, and most Americans are infuriated that their efforts here are uniformly blocked by the GOP and its Siamese twinship with the NRA.

With all of this utter insanity and blatant disregard for the will of the American people, who’s left to vote Republican?

No one expects professional football players to be atmospheric scientists, but can’t we hope that they’ll simply keep their mouths shut?

If I tried to tell an elementary school child that our clean air is going to China and that their bad air is coming back over here, forcing us to clean it back up, the kid would laugh me right out of the room.

The command of science held by most U.S. voters isn’t too impressive, but they’re not going to put up with total nonsense.

The cartoon here illustrates something that many of us see constantly in our daily lives: some people care about the environment and the quality of life we’re leaving for future generations.  And others just plain don’t.

An old friend likes to kid me: “save the whales.”

Re: my concerns about the environmental collapse that is raining down around us, he says, “I was born without that gene.” And I suppose he’s exactly right.

From today’s Los Angeles Times: California cities ban new gas stations

Without realizing they were starting a movement in green energy policy, Petaluma leaders did just that when they questioned the approval process for a new gas station — eventually halting its development and others in the future. (more…)

We’ve haven’t seen any mass defections to this point, but let’s show a bit of patience.

Watch what happens when there is plenty of credible testimony to the effect that Trump knowingly orchestrated an attempted overthrow of the U.S. federal government, and the indictments start rolling in.

Trump?  Trump who?  I don’t believe I’ve ever met him.
