Cutting-Edge Consumer Product Conserves Huge Quantities of Water

The response to my request for more cleantech business plans has taken me to some fantastically interesting places, as I knew it would.

Here’s Smarter Flush, a consumer product I really love. For $19.95 and an investment of 10 minutes to install (no tools needed), anyone can retrofit a toilet so that it uses as little of 50% of the water it’s currently consuming. Depending on where you live and your utility rates, the payback period for this can be as short as 90 days. Try that with solar panels!

Ecologically, recognize that we’re facing a water shortage; 36 states in the United States alone will have a major water problem by the year 2013 – even if we don’t have a major drought.

I’ve spoken with the product developer a few times, and what’s needed here, it seems to me, is an investor/partner with a little bit of cash and lot of heart to take this forward to the world.  It’s not as if the market size is unappealing; there are 350 million toilets in the U.S. alone with 100-year-old “flapper and chain” technology – 20% of which leak, btw. Someone with some vision needs to pick this up and run with it: perhaps an infomercial, perhaps home shopping TV, maybe a good relationship with the major retailers.

If you’re interested, please let me know, and I’ll put you in touch with the owner/developer.
