Crowd Funding in Renewable Energy
I’m constantly asked about the validity of crowd funding as a potential source of capital for the clean energy projects we support here at 2GreenEnergy. There are many good case studies of success here, which is why I recommend that people check out sites like CrowdFunder.com.
Though CrowdFunder.com is totally legitimate, I’m not sure I can say that about all the investment opportunities that go out looking for money in this manner. The other day a colleague told me, “90% of what you see on those platforms is vaporware.” When I asked him what he meant, he responded, “OK, here’s an example. A certain company offers wireless ear buds. Sounds good, right? But they’re the size of baseballs. When I pointed out that this is two full orders of magnitude too large to be practical, the CEO told me that, if they get their funding, he believes he can make them much smaller.”
“Vaporware” seems an apt moniker for that one, to be sure.
Again, however, crowd funding can be a powerful tool, and CrowdFunder.com most certainly has a cutting-edge approach to the subject. Good luck.
