Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Is Bound To Have Unintended Consequences

OTEC and Carbon Sequestration

2GreenEnergy Supporter Cameron Atwood sent me this piece on OTEC, and writes: Interesting.

Yes, that IS interesting. There definitely will be unintended consequences (assuming that OTEC ever comes along). Some of these, however, will be good, or at least have the potential to be so—as I wrote in the post linked above.

Whether or not OTEC actually happens is an interesting question. Like so many other technologies, it has a finite window in which to do its thing. Yes, it seems like a cool solution for those living near the equatorial oceans, but keep in mind that the price of PV and wind (even offshore wind) are falling fast. If OTEC’s going to be a part of the 21st Century energy mix, it needs to step up to the plate fairly soon.

As you know, I’m still a believer; I have it listed as one of my clean energy investment opportunities.
